Opinions need on processor options!

I blew out my 1.2 ghz Athlon the other day (through my own stupidity) and now I need a new processor. While I am tight for cash I don't mind spending more if I think it will benefit me greatly... my computer is used mostly for gaming so it needs something decent.

Here are my options.

A friend can get me a Tbird 1.1 ghz that goes to about 1.4 for $55 + shipping.
I can buy an XP1700+ from Newegg.com, or other online vendor. ( I think the 1700 is the sweet spot in terms of price / performance )
I can buy a duron chip and wait a while for XP prices to come down.

What do you all think I should do? I'm leaning towards buying the Tbird.

Buy the T-Bird 1.1 GHz or send me a PM; I have an UNUSED (YES it's true) T-Bird (AXIA) 1.2 GHz purchased from NewEgg retail-boxed but I
never used the CPU in the system I was going to build. It is EASY to tell that the CPU is unused. I would "let it go" for $80 plus shipping. 😉
