Hi,

So I am about to buy a new video card to replace my crossfired 6950's. (selling them to a friend). I game at 1440p and really want to get off the dual card train so i can game hassel free by just launching new titles and have them work every time.

Anyways, I have 2 options avalible to me currently here in Christchurch, NZ:

Gigbyte 680GTX and Gigbyte OC edition Windforce 7970(1000mhz/5500mem). Now I know most people are saying the 680 etc etc because its cheaper and slightly faster at stock but in my case it is not cheaper. The 7970 is $35 USD cheaper than the 680 for me, but I like the sound of adaptive vsync...

I am torn and have nfi which I should get I don't really have a preference for ATi/NV I have owned both and like both so really it comes down to, do you guys think a 680 is worth $35usd over the windforce 7970?

I don't really care about power savings & don't bitcoin or the likes. Just your stock standard gamer / computer user.

What would you do?

*edit*
Incase anyone asks, running a 2600k, 8GB ram, 2560x1440 res monitor.

Thanks
Larno

both have their own pros and cons. I personally prefer Nvidia but if your experience with the 6950 setup has been good then no real reason not to get the 7970 since its cheaper. at that res, the factory oced 7970 will match or nearly match the 680 in most cases and even beat it in games like AvP, Warhead, Metro 2033 and Deus Ex.

Buy the card based on the brand you measure. Your card will hit 1050-1100 for sure with stock volts, most probably at least 1100-1150 with stock volts in fact. But 1050+ is given. And some memory OC pretty much with just the slider. With that both cards will perform about equal.

The reference 7970 makes a lot of noise when overclocked, due to custom fan profile. if the windforce doesn't have that issue, which I think it does have as a matter of fact, but if noise isn't an issue, then it doesn't matter which one you go with. Think like this, do you want to save $35 or do you want to save some noise? :)

Besides, just check the games you like to play. Honestly, it all depends on your brand preferences. If you prefer nvidia get 680 if you prefer ATI get 7970. No difference in performance per say especially if you don't mind overclocking at stock volts :)

680 gets my vote. More performance potential, lower power usage at stock and less driver complaints thus far.

Thanks for the comments. I decided to go with the 680, snagged one on way home from work today, so far so good.

Decided that my last 2 cards upgrades were ATI/AMD so I might as well give the greens another whirl + adaptive v-sync and the feature set helped as well.

Cheers
