Opinion on these Specs?

I'm getting ready to build my first system. I've been researching components and absorbing all the great information you forum-goers have been giving. This is what I'm currently thinking about for the base of the system:

-AMD Thunderbird 1.4GHz
-EPOX 8K7A+ Mb
-512MB Crucial PC2100 DDR
-GeForce 2 Pro
-SB Live! Value

I will be running many graphic-intensive programs on the system, such as Photoshop, After Effects and Lightwave.
Does anyone have any cooling suggestions for my 1.4 Thunderbird?
Also...how risky is installing the CPU/HS/fan. Would I be better if I had the system custom built for me.
Lastly, has anyone head of the GeForce 2 Pro Card with TV-out made by 'eVGA'?
Any other recommendations for a first-timer are welcome.

Thanks guys, I have learned a lot from your posts over the past 3 days!
Dan

some peeps hate the sb live but I haven't had problems with it........and I think they released drivers to fix the crap for the most part

looks fine......though, at this rate that system will be crappy by the end of the year 😉

Man, I feel your pain 😉

I read-up on reviews from the main AnandTech site before I "built". That was easy, because the reviews didn't change near as fast as opinions HERE do! It's almost like watching the ocean waves coming in and going out. One minute a particular component is the darling of the BBS. The next minute a new part comes out and people "turn" on the first one 😀

Anyway...
For good cooling, go HERE. I'd probably break down and go with the Thermalright SK-6. It's a good design, and I think it has some "lapping" potential. I WOULD'NT go with a loud fan on it.

Have you though of an "Ultra" instead of the "Pro" for your video needs?

I'd recommend the Altec Lansing ACS56 speakers for your audio needs. I think Circuit City has them for $100 after rebate. They ROCK!

A Teac 40X CD-ROM, for your normal CD needs.

If you all don't agree with me... Please don't trash me because of it 😉
