Opinion on Paypal, what do you use to purchase?

A few months ago I seen an article on a news broadcast on Paypal. It described that people were getting ripped off. I would like to know if anyone has had this experience? I have quit using it because of this. I may consider using it again, depending on the results of this. Thanks :)

Paypal is truly an institution. As far as payment goes, lets just say you can bank transfer payments to people, call your bank and dispute the EFT, get your $ back from paypal, and essentially rip off the people that shipped you merchandise.

Spoken with experience. For the record, I'm not condoning fraud, just saying it can be done easily.

Well! <ahem> I never have had any problems with it, and much of my computer business wouldn't survive well without it. It's mainstream electronic financial transfer efficiency at its best. :) You're not a real (re: respected) eBay member if you don't use it.

that is true, I do feel bad for the guy who got robbed of $8,000. I am debating on whether to go back to paypal, being it is so much quicker and prefered. :)

I use paypal all the time. It is so easy to accept payment. I have a special bank account that it is linked to that has $0 dollars in it. WhenI get paid, it goes intot the bank account as soon as I get that e-mail. Then it gets transfered from that bank account into my normal one.

Good service, too many security holes.

I had to do the Paypal bit when I started selling on ebay, and it certainly beats waiting for money orders and the possibility of "lost in the mail" or a buyer who claims he mailed the money order but never did.

i use it.

billpoint i think is better, its 2.25% only on credit cards... then again there is no "personal" billpoint.

c2it on the other hand, i dont think is as good. first off on my mbna credit card i get a 3% cash advance fee ifi use c2it to send money. apparently this is only with certain cards, but i dont get jacked 3% if i use my mbna on paypal.

paydirect just has a horrible interface and outside of that is basically the same as paypal.

so really paypal is the best out of all of them. i mean you can get ripped off on any form of payment. its part of life. do you stop using credit cards, because someone can steal yours and charge a lot of stuff on it. NO. and people who take credit cards, still accept them even if stolen ones are used, and cause chargebacks sometimes. so yeah, its the cost of doing business.

Neva had a problem with paypal here either. Except the fact that when you upgrade your account to the corporate version... they take nearly 5% of all incoming funds. That's like daylight robbery :(

Hi PsychoAndy,

Your seller would be covered if they followed Seller Protection. The issue you ran into is because you filed a return with the bank.

Hi EvanGeliSt,

I was wondering where you were coming up with a 5% figure? The only thing I can figure is that you might be an international user, which means you would pay for an additional 1% cross border fee. The rates are 2.2 and .30, or 2.9 and .30.

My point was: If I can rip someone off inadvertently whats to stop someone else from doing so intentionally?

I have used Paypal since February of 2000 and I have NEVER had a problem with it. I don't know what I would do without it and the debit card.
