Hey guys i am really looking at getting this monitor!!!
It looks really great for the money...and features are very comparable to the KDS-195 and Samsung 900IFT

I have found this monitor at BUY.com for $259.99 and i'm sure someone knows of some great buy.com coupons and buy.com is already offering free shipping....

it is going to replace my aging old 15" proview so it should be a major improvement... is this the right deal to go with or should i wait and save some more for a samsung or KDS equivilent

thanks guys

I dont think so. It's specs are definitely not up there with AV-195TF nor 900IFT. It's a conventional curved shadow mask tube, compare to 195TF and 900IFT's flat tubes. Its resos/refreh rates are not as high, video bandwidth is not as fast either. That's what makes it so cheap, its good for the money, but thats about it. I recommend the Hitachi SuperScan CM715 over it though, because its just as cheap.

I was under the impression that the F in AS95F means flat. I'm considering this unit versus the 955DF, as they are similarly priced when you throw out the Buy.com exception ($260 for the AS95F is the lowest anywhere).

Just looking at resolution/refresh stats, the NEC gives you 8 or so more Hz than the Samsung at the highest resolution.

I have that monitor. Its a true flat tube. I also have a Samsung 955df, and NEC is way better. Sony and NEC for me all the way. KDS doesnt even come close.

SUOrangeman:

The NEC model is not flat, its merely a Flat Square Tube, doesnt translate to Flat screen face.

If you need more refresh rate, I recommend the 900IFT over the 955DF, but its more expensive.

LXi:

OK, now I'm really confused

According to OnVia, the NEC site, and Buy.com, this monitor is a truly flat screen. OnVia in particular says it's not a flat square tube (as opposed to the 90M) Linkified

However, I did a search on the boards, and some people say the monitor has a special lens to make it look like it's a flat screen. Did you read somewhere that this monitor is a flat square tube? Please reply, because I'm seriously considering buying this monitor.

Hey, I just got the NEC 19" Accusync 90 from buy.com's DOTD...Man, am I disappointed...Although I had a cheap'o Cybervision C72 17", the think was incredible bright and crisp...straight lines...easy on the eyes...This NEC is my first 19", so maybe I need to get used to it, but I doubt it....

...been working on it for 30 minutes now and have a total headache :) the left/right edges of the screen bow out in the middle..totally curved looking on the screen...dark as hell unless I max out the brightness...IE background looks like an off-white, and it has like an orange/red splotch looking mark on the right-hand side (very faint, but I can't help but to stare it at)...at the current resoulution, it says 60hz ver-sync and hor-sync 48khz...if that why it hurts my eyes?

Lastly, any ever return crap to buy.com? I have never had any problems with them, but this damn thing needs to go...with it being the DOTD, you think I'll stuck with the 220.00 paperweight?

Helpless did you try adjusting your new monitor? Those sound like things that should be adjusted(except for the spot problem). And you might want to adjust the refresh.

Also make sure you are using the right driver made for the model of monitor(not a generic driver).

I won't claim any expertise here.

So, what the FECK is flat SQUARE, especially in comparison to just flat?

From the links I had seen prior to today, I understood that the NEC was FLAT and not FLAT SQUARE.

SUOrangeman and Giovanni:

Im very confused too... here is the explaination for the difference between flat face and flat square, Hitachi technology info.

As far as I know, Samsung and Hitachi are the ONLY two manufacturers capable of producing flat face shadow mask tubes right at this moment, Samsung's DynaFlat IFT, and Hitachi's ErgoFlat. I dont know what it is in that AccuSync95F, its not a DiamondTron NF since they only use those for their MultiSync line, but apparently it looks like a flat face monitor to me(the picture on the info page didnt seem like it).

More speculations, it says "0.24 mm flat dot pitch / 0.20 horizontal" as the description of the CRT. As far as I know, the Samsung DynaFlat IFT's dot pitch is also 0.20mm horizontal/0.24mm diagonal. There is a high possibility here that this monitor's tube is made by Samsung. I know for sure it's not a Hitachi ErgoFlat because the ErgoFlat is 0.22mm horizontal/0.25-26mm diagonal.

Thanks for the link LXi. I think I'm going to try NEC's InstantEval thing, where they deliver a monitor to you in 24 hours and you get to use it free for five days as a trial run. This sounds like a great option, someone else here was talking about it. Anyone ever try this?

Yea, I got the refresh cranked now, and much better on the eyes...only gripe now is that the white creen backgrounds, like in a blank IE explorer window, are off white at best...and only on the white screens can I see the discolor to the right of the screen...My wife says she don't see chit, but I do :)

...and when sitting 1 1/2' from it, the grains and pixels are clearly seen to me...I know, I know..back up :)

I think that a lot of confusion is from 2 different models being discussed interchangeably.

NEC has the AS90 (and 90M) and AS95F
The 90 has flat square (and the 90M, which is the 90 with speakers built in; M=multimedia). The 95F (F=flat) is truly flat, they say. Looked d@mn flat to me.

the 90 has a .26 dp, but the 95F has a .24/.25 (depending on where youlook). The box states .25 - the web site .24.

I called NEC a few weeks ago and spoke to an Engineer who told me the 95F has a Samsung tube. I liked the 95F but got 2 duds and RMAd both.
I ran the 95F at 1024x768@100. I was pretty happy. Sorry I had to return it. If it hadn't been defective I would have loved it (I know that sounds stupid- it had a fuzzy area - if that hadn't been there, I would have been thrilled).

There my speculation is confirmed. The A95F runs on a Samsung DynaFlat tube.

Ok, so its a Samsung tube after all... I thought it was a Mits. tube, but then the AS95F should perform identical to the Samsung 955DF.

Identical? Maybe not, NEC is free to tweak its specs the way they want, they're not locked into the 955DF specs. The Samsung 900IFT, with the same tube, has higher specs than either A95F or 955DF. So same tube /= same specs.

Mitsubishi DiamondTron NF tubes look drastically different from shadow masks.

In my opinion? I would go for the one thats either (1)cheaper, (2)higher specs. In this case the A95F gets my vote, and since its based on the Samsung tube, I'm 100% confident about its image quality.

Buy.com raised the price to $328, so no deal anymore.
Samsung's $30 expirs tomorrow, Oct 31 so hurry.
Personally I bought the FE950 at Staples and the AS95F from Buy.com. For $260 delivered it's a steal for this monitor. It's on backorder now so gotta wait.
