Opinion on Dell 2000FP

I am looking to purchase my first LCD monitor and found a good price ($999.00) at Dells sight on the 2000FP. Is this a good monitor? My reason for picking this monitor are the 1600x 1200 and the DVI Input. How is the blurring on this? Or should I spend a little more and get the Viewsonic VX2000 with its "3X speed-LCD display"? Any input is appreciated. It will be used mainly for gaming.

Viewsonic VX's 3x speed is marketing hype.
It's just 25ms in spec.

The 2000FP is a wonderful monitor! Is your video card fast enough to make your favorite games playable at 1600x1200? As to the question of whether its response time is fast enough for gaming use, you'll have to ask the gamers about that.

Right now I am using Geforce 4600 and will get the ATI9900 Pro when it comes out. Any gamers out there with this monitor? Thanks for the answers guys.

If the viewsonic is 25ms spec, do you know what the fastest monitors are out there now. Sorry new to the world of LCD. Trying to learn and not be disapointed when I do purchase.

My 17" NEC LCD runs 1280x1024 default, but games actually run and play fine at lower resolutions. Windows desktop is another story though.

Somewhere around 15ms. But, honestly 25ms is fine for most things. The odds that you'll truly notice a huge difference between 25 and 15 aren't that great.

Try and check out this gigantic thread at arstechnica, there's tons of good info.

My second advice is to try before buying.

Third advice check the hotdeals forum, as there were some nice deals on the 2000FP some time ago.

I use this monitor as my gaming monitor with a PIII 733 and a TI 4200 GeForce 4 with the DVI connection. Because of system limitations I run most of the new games at 800x600 or 1024x768. Even though that's not the best resolution for this LCD it still looks good. I have played 1942, UT2003, Quake III, NeverWinter Nights, Need for Speed, Nascar Racing, Age of Mythology, etc. I've noticed no video problems, if there has been issues then my eyes are not sharp enough to notice. I actually ran UT2003 once in 1600x1200, totally unplayable frame rate wise because my PC blows chunks, but it looked awesome on the 2000fp.

I have a 2000FP and game quite a bit. To me the ghosting is noticeable in some games if I look for it, but in the normal course of playing a game, I'd be hard pressed to see any. As pointed out in that extremely informative thread over at Ars, grays/browns/bland colors blurring may be a little more noticeable than others, but in my usage it's not to the extent where I notice in normal gameplay. The worst blurring I've seen is actually not from a FPS game but RTS games. In Age of Mythology when scrolling around the map, the landscape tends to look a little blurrier than on a CRT. Warcraft III basically does the same thing also.

My only complaint with it isn't really against the 2000FP, it's the fact that I don't have a beefy enough system to run all of the games I want to play at the native 1600x1200. It's a wonderful display though, and my eyes thank me everyday for switching to an LCD. 🙂
