I put together my last PC about a year ago and haven't dropped another penny in it since. It is as follows:

1.2 Tbird
MSI K7T Pro2A Mobo
V5500AGP
384MB RAM
SB Live!
Fireball AS 30GB Ultra 100
Win98SE

and the usual other crap... Its been a rock-solid system for me and hasn't given me the SLIGHTEST bit of trouble.

However, I've had the V5500AGP for quite a while now (I'd guess a few months after they came out? When they first starting coming down in price) and it has served me well but I know it is getting long in the tooth. I am however pretty happy with the rest of my PC (1.2Ghz & 384MB RAM is still nothing to sneeze at).

Since I haven't even been in the hardware market for a while, I have just started to pay attention to vid cards again and look at some reviews. The GF3 Ti200 seems to be a great bang for the buck. Agreed? I am looking at the Visiontek (has the best availability and price where I live). Would it be a good step up from the V5500? I usually run my games (flightsims) at 1024x768x16 .... sometimes 1280x1024x16 if the game will permit (homeworld).

Any thoughts? Good idea?

I dunno man/girlio ( ;) ), I'm still using a Voodoo5 5500, so I might be a little biased, but especially if you are flight simming, you may want to hang onto your Voodoo5 until something else comes out. The Voodoo5 5500 is still one of the best, if not the best, card for flight sims and so far I haven't found a game yet that won't run well on it(Max Payne, RTCW).

If you have a budget for something, why not pickup some luxury item you've always dreamed about. Perhaps that joystick/throttle that always makes you salivate, new soundcard and/or speakers, ultra mondo cool headphones, or even something ultra geeky...a bubble window side for your case with neon lighting and glow in the dark decal! :D

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the Visiontek.

I don't just use the PC for sims, but I do quite a bit... the V5500 will get a good home in my second system, a P3-500. I'll have to take the old reliable Xentor TNT2 out of it! :)
