Hey guys. What do you guys think about AFS? The lights that move as you turn? It sounds really cool to me but my friend thinks them to be distracting and disorienting. Thoughts?

i have them on my car, i wouldn't say they make a huge difference but they do make a difference, but they do help a little on a windy road.

mine came with the HID lighting upgrade, and cost about the same for the upgrade as most other cars do for just HIDs, so i guess they cost more or less nothing (or well it was $900 on this particular car for HIDs with auto leveling an adaptive lighting). my last 4 cars have had HIDs and i would have bought HIDs regardless since they are much brighter and on this particular car look way better so i guess its worth it for me. i guess it depends on how much you value ~900 or so dollars

They're quite convenient. I think they were standard on my father's C6 (a proper implementation, where the lighting body swung according to the steering input), and the E-cabrio he replaced the C6 with has that lazy implementation, where they turn on the foglights, when turning into a corner.

Both variants have some effect, but I prefer the more subtle and refined way, like how the C6 did it.

I have them on both of my cars (BMW E90 & Infiniti EX35). I also had a car without (G37 w/o tech pkg. Traded-in for EX35). From my experience, it is quite useful to have AFS compare to normal HID as it does provide more light to the direction you are heading to, especially when you are driving on quite curved roads.

hey hans...do you have a bmw? believe that option is $900 on those..

Yah I have a BMW. $900 on the 2013 ones. Just the angel eyes and hid was worth $900 I consider the lights turning s neat extra. I think BMW calls it adaptive light control.

Oh come on what does that cost to fix when it breaks?

You mean when they become normal lights? 😛

I have many thousands of miles on auto leveling lights and have yet to have a failure, I'd suspect the up/down movement would be no different than side to side. I'm not that concerned.

Well, then you can live without AFS and live as normal stationary HID. lol.

But yeah, my car's about 6 (almost 7, actually) years old and it's still working very well. If it dies, not a big deal, I will just leave it as normal stationary HID. It's handy, not must.
