Opinion on a laptop.

I'm planning to buy this laptop... After a quick glance at the specs is there anything that stands out in your mind as something I'm overlooking or may regret having or not having? Link

What will you use it for?

You can get a faster videocard (Radeon Mobility 7500) if you plan on gaming a lot. Also, I would get 512 MB of RAM, but you can upgrade whenever you want.. 20 GB is smallish, but not bad for the price.

However, the position of keys sucks. PgUp/PgDown and others are aligned along the right edge of the keyboard, which is inconvenient... CDRW 4x4x24? OUCH. They have 8x now...

Also, I would rather buy a mobile Athlon... faster.

Well, you asked 🙂

Don't you pay shipping AND tax to BestBuy? Why not order from Dell and also get expanded warranty? Or buy from Compaq or someone else who has Athlon 4..

I'm really not going to use the laptop for gaming. Maybe an occasional game of Civ III but that's about it. Main use will be for Photoshop and word processing. I'll be picking up the computer at a Best Buy B&M so I won't pay for shipping but will have to pay tax.

I'm definately going to keep looking at other laptops, thanks for the advice.

You'll definitely want a 15" and 512 MB RAM (or more) for Photoshop... Also, count on using an external mouse because all laptops come with a less-than-perfect pointing device, whether a touchpad or a nipple (I got the word "nipple" at ChicksHardware.com 🙂)

I would try to find some benchmarks before rushing in.. Another laptop with the same CPU might be faster (but then again, who knows).
