I am thinking about getting a network card(s) but am having trouble deciding between which 3com network cards to buy. I am buying for 2-3 computers.

Here is a list of the NIC I am considering:
3C905b-TX
3C905c-TX
3C990-TX95
3C990-TX97

Is there really a difference between a NIC with the 3Xp Processor and one that lacks it?

Suggestion to get a NIC with 68bit (not sure), 168bit, or no encryption?

Thanks!

Check out Intel NICS, they have a good performance and I think abit easy to setup (I have a pretty good backgournd with both). I currently use the 3C905B in my home network and at work (now I think 3COM is up to 3C905C).

3com is good stuff. We exclusively use 3c905b's in our servers at work.

Intel's products are pretty good as well (never used em myself, just judging by stuff I've read). And I've been impressed with Netgear cards in the desktop computers at work.

as the rest of the guys said, intel is good stuff, but thats not what you asked about. i haven't touched one of the 3coms with the 3Xp processor yet, but i can tell you that the 3c905c blows compared to the 3c905b, i dont know what they did, but the c sucks. definately get the b

If anyone is interested, I am selling some 3Com 3C905 and Intel PRO/100+ Management cards for $26 shipped each. also have 2 Intel PCMCIA NICs for laptop.

3com & Intel NICs, PCI and PCMCIA

Never have problem with the 3Com 3C905, Intel cards seem to be just as well.
