i recently found a 2-3 year old 20 gig hard drive that had been shipped to me from western digital as an rma. the drive was sealed in the bag (with excellent cushioning provided by wd), and the box hadn't even been opened. i put it on ebay (where it was going for ~$30-$35). a guy offers $20 to come over and buy it. i say $30, he says ok, he comes over, i cancel the auction. week and a half later (today), he called me and said the drive didn't work. i haven't responded yet, but right now i'm thinking i should do the following: a) call western digital tomorrow, ask what options are (understanding they're probably nothing free), b) offer a full or partial refund (partial = $20 or so), but only after c) i plug the hd into my own computer to verify it doesn't work. am i doing too much? not enough? would like some feedback, thanks.

Shouldn't be your problem. The drive was a *sealed* RMA directly from Western Digital. Plus it took dude a week and a half to contact you.

your response should have been "what hard drive?" ;) of course the guy probably knows where you live, which is why you never conduct trades at your home.
