The NHC models currently predict that Ophelia is going to be moving northeast and then in a small clockwise circle over the next few days. It is over some really warm water from which to pick up energy.

Oh, they hit Texas, all right. The 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston was the worst in recent history, up until that biatch Katrina showed up. This could well be the year that they get it again, since the hurricane season is just getting started and they are already worrying about running out of names for the season.

what sucks is that back in 1900 they probably have no idea how strong a storm would be even if they knew one was coming!

This thread needs an update my friend...Ophelia targeting the Carolinas for landfall Tuesday, most likely as Category 1 but possibly as Category 2 or 3.

Hopefully this one'll pan out like Ophelia in Hamlet and head out to sea and self-destruct?

Just curious, but how strong was Galveston actually? It would do serious damage simply b/c no one knew what was coming. Think of how much worse Andrew would have been if we hadn't known it was coming!
