what will be the advantages to the 64 bit operating system if any compared to the 32 bit OS, I ask this becuae tring hard to scape up enough to build a new PC and the Operron seems to be coming out in the near future and see were Microsoft is going to release a new Windows XP for 64bit and also Windows 2003. It takes me a long time anymore to save up for new hardawe and so I want to be sure to get somthing that will be abel to handel most programs for a few years.
Seems there have been more big changes in harware this year than in the past and now a 64Bit OS and CPU may be a big one too.

I am also buying a Athlon 64 (1MB L2 version I hope ;)). I hope that x86-64 compatibility will help out by saving costs in future upgrades. Plus it has some really great gaming hardware, such as a dedicated 2GB/s bus to AGP and a super-fast memory controller. Im excited. :)

I think mainstream 64bit aps will be a while before they appear. For that reason alone I am not sure I'd want to go with a 64bit system for home/personal/SOHO use, since most software will not take advantage of the 64bit system. Of course, since the Opteron will run both 32bit and 64bit software, you might want to consider it. But I think there will be some overhead involved when running 32bit aps. The Opteron is really being designed for the server/workstation market.

Depending on what you do, the currently availabe Bartons should be able to handle most anything for the next few years.
