Just purchased an Opteron 146 and I am awaiting its arrival. I was wondering if any forum members have experience OC'ing the 146 with stock H/S/F. If yes, what kind of performance gain did you see.

Also, should I replace the stock thermal grease with Artic Silver 5?

Comments appreciated.

overclocking with a stock hsf is probably not a great idea. spend a few bucks and get an XP-90 from jabtech or somewhere, it's worth it. and yes, AS5>stock grease.

Mine runs 2.7 @~42C full load and 1.425 Volts. With the stock cooler, temps were only about 2C higher. The stock cooler is fine if your are not looking for an extreme OC or silence.
I already had my Freezer 64 from a previous Newcastle CPU, so I used it. But the stock cooler would have been fine if I has kept using it.

The Opterons runs very cool, even with a light increase n Vcore. If you are trying for 3.0GHz+, then you might want a better cooler.
