So this isn't breaking news or anything but seems come September Operation Iraqi Freedom will now be known as Operation New Dawn...seems pretty silly to me, kinda like renaming the war on terror to "overseas contingency operation."

It's not any different than when Bush's media consultants told him to shelve "War in Iraq" in favor of "War on a nebulous undefinable concept". Just like Bush, Obama needs to divorce the operation's public name from any tangible reality. Rather than be "Operation observable reality" it is now "Operation warm and fuzzy concept".

Controlling the words is a vital tool for the molders of public opinion. Both sides of the aisle are pieces of the same creature.

There is always that old saying that no good deed should remain unpunished, but in the case of US foreign policy over the past 60 years, there are few good deeds and lots of punishments for our bad deeds.

We tried to keep French Colonialism in South Vietnam and got our ass kicked, we tried to support a corrupt Baptista in Cuba and got a Castro, we destroyed Iranian democracy in 1953, gave them a Shah, and now we get Ayatollahs. But Iraq has to somewhat take the cake as we supported Saddam Hussain in Iraq as our man in the mideast against Iran. See Rummy shake Saddam hand , watch Rummy urge Saddam build up his military while buying WMD, watch Iran contra, watch Saddam invade Iran while double dealing with the Russians. We created that monster, and then decided that there was nothing worse than a tin pot dictator that would not stay bought.

So GWB&co decided to remove him after 911, in an invasion on the cheap that only created total Iraqi anarchy, cost us dearly in treasure and blood, and now we think maybe we are out of the woods.

Get em clue, Iraq is hardly stable, and could fly apart at any moment.

And please do not me started on our mistakes in Afghanistan.
