Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising

Here are some screenshots of Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising....I got it from the Steam Sale, a copy for me and one for my son....you can co-op the campaign, so I have just been fooling around with it, to get the hang of the controls and all of the commands of your squad and stuff.....it is definitly tactical and not a run & gun.....one shot from the enemy can kill you.

Hopefully I will get a grasp on it before we start the campaign together......2 copies for $9 seems like a lot of cheap co-op fun for us......hopefully the campaign is good.

From what I have read, that is the best way to play this, coop. Of course, 4 people (so there are NO bots on your squad) is the ultimate.

Me and two friend picked it up, I'm looking forward to giving it a try in the fall when we are all back at school. Tactical games are generally pretty fun when you play them co-op.

I agree

The game does not need to be ArmA 2 for me...but something similar to the Ghost Recon series will be fine for us for co-op.

How do the controls compare to ArmA 2? Do you feel like your driving a airplane simulation while you're walking around on foot?

I have not played ArmA 2, or an airplane simulation 🙂

I am plying a few practice missions now to learn how to order my squad around....make them flank and moving them in different formations and the like.

I have not even been in any vehicles yet, as i want to get my on the ground grunt work mastered first.

I would recommend that you do the driving in vehicles because at least for me, my squad mates drive into every tree and boulder that there is in single player. The game is pretty cool and a lot of fun so far, even in single player campaign mode.

I like ARMA2, mainly because of the community

I despise arma 2 so much simply because the developers missed the point of infantry based combat. They got all the simlation stuff right, but most humans don't have to give a second thought to doing anything. Why should my infantryman in a game control like an APC?

This game is pretty hard...my son's help will be much appreciated in co-op in the campaign.

Having a real good time with the game.

Cause the difficulty in controls mimics the weight of holding a 10 or 20 pound weapon. have you ever run around with a 30 lb machine gun, and managed to aim and fire it? Oh, and not to mention it simulates how tired you are, your breathing, your rucksack weighing you down. Ya.... Take that bitcher.

Yeah the game is getting harder as I'm progressing, it seems to be more realistic play wise. Pretty cool so far. Medic!!!!! Medic!!!!!! Damned PLA.......

The checkpoint B.S. is driving me nuts, it should have been done away with the last gen of console. -edit- As in no manual saves. -edit-

Even being a console port, I find it played better on PC then console as everything wasn't a dark brown (360) and I can aim, more or less. Still bugs me how at long range or with static/vehicle mounted weapons the aim doesn't move smoothly but moves in something like one block of space at a time.

Overall, consolized b****** son of ARMA II, but quite worth it for $5 (steam).

I should not have to hunt and peck in order to make my character do something. I don't have to give a second thought to performing actions in real life. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the way their weapons fire, or the breathing mechanics of the game. A game should not make me feel like I'm hitting switches inside the cockpit of a vehicle to make my character go prone. I also should not have to click through 3 different menus to tell a guy to go stand over there. It's horribly unintuitive and destroys the sense of immersion the players have.

There are better ways to make a battlefield simulation than to make your character feel like some robot.

Demo peeved me cause of the poop-stained-goggles filter over everything. Damn. I don't remember if I could turn it off.

Finally made it thru the 2nd mission....damn, the game is tuff!

The checkpoint system is rather annoying.....if they were alittle closer together , it would help.

It is fun and very tactical.

the campaign is great fun.

just started going through it again on coop now that some buddies got it from the steam sale

the lack of level choosing sucks though.

Had to kill one PLA soldier at 500 yards to progress, had to compensate my Marksman rifle's scope with the hash marks in order to compensate for the arch the bullet would make at that range, pretty cool. Killed that bastard though. Yes the saving mechanism leaves a lot to be desired, and the radial we have to use to give out orders is a pain, but overall this game is much better than I expected.

I agree 100% with everything you just said.

With the amount of controls you have available there's really no other way to implement it. Mapping every movement to a seperate key is going to be like an flight sim and you get lost in all the keys. Using a radial dial like OFPDR will need to be several layers deep as well. Until you can command them by voice there's always going to be a limitation but it isn't as bad as you make it.

Just because that's the only way to implement all the choices doesn't mean it's fun. Doesn't matter anyways, the game is long ago uninstalled and forgotten. Other than how bad it was.

While yes, the controls aren't perfect, it IS the best battlefield simulator running. It's what the US military, etc. uses. Well not Armed Assault, but the same engine and developer.

This is a really great game though the single player felt to short and limited in therms of the use of vehicles the online makes up for it I haven't tried coop yet but yeah im sure it will be FUN!
