Operating temp for an Athlon 1.4?

I just assembled an Athlon 1.4 system, with the boxed set heatsink/fan.
I am a bit concerned by the operation temp of the chip, it is idling
at about 54 C and is up to 59-60 on reboot after load. This seems
too hot to me, but the AMD site gives no info on expected operation
temp.

I have 80mm intake/outflow fans on the case, using an MSI K7T Turbo.

What temp should I expect for normal (no overclock) operation?
Assuming I need a new heatsink/fan, what is recommended?
Is it necessary to cut my case to add a third fan?

Thanks for any info.

I think that your temps are okay. If they get in to the mid to high 60s, then there is cause for concern, but as long as they stay in the 50s to low 60s under load you should be okay. If you do want to replace the fan, some commonly available ones that are good are the Global Win CAK38 as well as the Thermaltake Dragon Orb 3 and the Vantek CCK-6035D is very good as well. I personally think that case mods like drilling a whole for the third fan are a little extreme, but that's just me...
