Alright, I thought of something. I have an old old computer from lets says 1998. and I cant afford the full version of Windows XP. Can i copy the old harddrive onto a black harddrive, then use the upgrade?? Or do I need a serial code of some sort?? I know this may be in the wrong forum, but It also deals with hardware.
 
The upgrade? As in the upgrade to Windows XP CD? Yes you should be able to, but the upgrade CD should've come with a serial number though.
 
the serial number for XP is not what im worried about, people have told me you need a serial number from the old operating system, and that is what I do not have.
