So I've inherited this Directv TIVO SD-40 unit, not really interested in using it for satellite tv.
I wonder if it can be used for anything else. It would be nice if I could stick in a new hard drive with some home videos on it and play them back with a simple interface (without having to covert everything to .ty whatever tivo format is and without needing another computer to serve up the video).
Anybody have any experiences or ideas?
I did see some hacks where you could transfer video to the tivo from a server, but I'll probably end up giving this to my parents and they sure aren't going to want to boot up 2 computers just to watch 1 video.
