How secure is is the newest version of the Opera browser (form Windows) that has the free VPN included.

It appears that part of the company was sold to a Chinese consortium. Makes me woonder about what is what

As my VPN needs are limited (a few bank transactions sporadically)., I would prefer to use a free VPN.
One alterantive woulb to use Hotspot Shield with Chrome .
