Looking for a stable utility to create divx or xvid from .ISO's of movies I've purchased and don't want damaged.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

If you want a gui, look here: dvd::rip

An adaptable guide for ripping a dvd to .mkv here

Or, use mplayer/mencoder to dump/encode the file.

There are lots of possible solutions. :)

Ok, great. I'm not familiar with multimedia stuff in Linux as I'd like to be...hence my post. Thanks

We all have to start somewhere. :) You didn't mention your skill/confidence level in your original post, but I'd recommend dvd::rip. It makes life simple and harder to screw up. :p

Check out Handbrake. It used to be just for Mac, but its been opened up to *nix and Windows. Its only command line for *nix operating systems, but it has support for the mkv container, the x264 encoder, and aac and vorbis audio codecs. What could be sexier? :)
