Openoffice Japanese/Chinese/Arabic input?

I can't find this on OOo, so I'll ask here.

I have support for complex text and asian languages enabled on my version of OpenOffice, but I can't find how to input text into, say, Writer, in those languages. I know that for MS Office you needed an Input Method Editor for the asian languages, but I can't find a program like that for OpenOffice.

(P.S. I'm not using MS Office on this computer because I'm not gonna buy a copy for it, because I'm getting another computer in a couple months, so it would be a waste of money).

For the MS IMEs, it seems I need to have office XP, unless there's a different thing I need besides the IME.

Edit: and what about Arabic? I know that a simple font change won't work.

And with OO, is there any way (besides several really small columns and a lot of copying and pasting) to do standard Japanese vertical layout?

Okay, I have it so that the IMEs are now working with OpenOffice, but I still can't figure out a way to do the vertical layout of Japanese text.
