OpenOffice. Frustrating to copy auto numbering section..

This is OpenOffice 2.4 in Ubuntu.

When I try to copy a section that is autonumbered and I don't select the number as part of my selection, it will still give me a number when I paste it.

For example, I copy the text from section 7 and except the 7. When I paste, it will prefix the pasted text with a "1." even when I'm not pasting back into OpenOffice!

Is there anyways to disable this?

im not sure about disabling it when you do the copy...but you can just select the copied text and unselect numbering. did you check formatting options and see if its under there?

I did look through the options and didn't see anything that was related to copy/pasting of data.

Yup, I'm only selecting the text to copy excluding the number. However when I paste, it will automatically include/prefix "1." even if I'm pasting outside of OpenOffice. It probably assumed that I was going to paste back into the document and already numbered it for me.

My quick solution was to copy the the entire document. Paste into textpad and then copy the text I needed from there. Quicker this way since I had to copy a few selections and didn't want to go back and remove that extra '1.' each time.

Word does the same thing, I can never get numbered lists done correctly without a ton of frustration. You should be able to paste, select the area and toggle off the numbering though.

That's the strange thing though. I'm NOT even pasting back into OpenOffice. Even if I paste into a text editor or a webpage, it will still append that "1." numbering prefix though I did NOT select the number to copy AND that's not even the same number on the original line! It's just crazy...

Ah, it probably goes the extra step of adding them to the copy buffer so that you don't lose them when you paste into other apps.

I don't know the answer to your problem, but you might want to check out Libreoffice. It's a GPL Openoffice fork and I think it is much more active in development.
