Opening with WMP9

I'm having trouble making WMP9 my default program for mpg and avi files. I didn't have this before... Everytime I doubleclick on a video file (avi/mpg/wmv), it tells me which program i'd like to open it with. No matter how many times, i select "always use this program..." the dialog screen always pops up. I've gone to folder options and file types and still no help. I've checked the box in the WMP options, but still no use. Any suggestions?

bleh...use wmp6.4

or mediaplayer classic 🙂

i didn't like 9...

once you've opened 6.4 (comes w/ every windows btw as the file name mplayer2.exe under windows media player folder in program files)

rt click on anywhere on the mplayer2 screen...click on options, then format....then select all...and done..

if you insist on using wmp9 (and u'll probably be flamed for using wmp9 esp. here in AT 😛), then the process should be similar...

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of WMP9 either, but I like it's full screen options and skins and most importantly playlists. One question, does wmp classic take up a lot less system resources? I checked all the video formats in wmp9 and still get the message... do I need to restart?

i'm guessing another program is vying for primary program to run files..😛

check quicktime and real players (if you have them installed, or any other player you might have installed, like divxplayer or alike..) to see if, under their settings, the video extentions for avi/mpg are check marked.

and i don't think you have to restart (i never had to)...it doesn't hurt to though..hehehe

Flame away, I use it....big deal. Maybe, just rerun the installer (C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Installer\mpsetupxp.exe)

Tools---->Options------>File Types in Media Player

edit: you could also right click on the file to open, open with, choose program, choose wmp 9 and check always use the selected program to open this file

Alright there smarty, whats your solution? I'd uninstall any other programs that could open the file.

Ya, I'm gonna try reinstalling WMP9 and if that doesn't work, then I'll use wmp classic. Thanks for the help.🙂
