Opening a Mac zipped file on a PC?

techs

Lifer
Someone was having trouble using the built in extracter in Vista to open a zipped file emailed to them by a Mac user.
I did get the file unzipped using 7 zip.
I did notice that WinRar gave error messages about "couldn't create folder".
In general, does the Mac O'S'es create PC compatible zip files? Or is this just an instance of the Mac user not doing it right?
thanks

Hmm.. I send ZIPs to Windows users all the time and never had an issue. Sounds like they aren't using the default OS X archive utility and might be using a 3rd party utility.

I would agree with kmax. The built in utility doesn't do anything weird, it just creates a ZIP file. Just like how a JPG or TXT or GIF or RTF or HTML file created on either OS will open just fine in the other.

Thanks.
Upon further testing, I was able to get it open with 7Zip. It seems to have wanted to create folders which have the System attribute and that seems to have been the problem.
It was probably just a poor Mac user who created the zipped files.

Although, how that happened is a mystery since just buying a Mac raises your IQ by at least 75 points:biggrin:
