100% agreed on the why you love it bit mate :D

I'm really not trying to knock any of that stuff :(

But do fans at big international games hammer out your anthem off their own bat? That's really all i'm wondering, cos i just can't imagin that happening (having had to play and sing it at HS a few times the tune gave me some trouble ;) )?

Cheers,

Dug.

Same difference. If they aren't American, they should STFU about dissing the American anthem.

(without orchestral accompaniment (sp?) anyway)

Non-rednecked automatic flame responses preferred ;) This is just my 2c, no more...

Cheers,

It does not matter. People will stand up and salute anything. And they are more than willing to beat up anyone who doesn't.

Not really.

More proof that other countries have just as many idiotic super patriotic people I guess.

I didn't know that "Aussie" was a race.

check the definition of 'racism' then ;)
The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

http://www.sahrc.org.za/definition_of_racism.htm

The ICERD (International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination) defines racism as follows:
?Any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment, or exercise, on equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, or any other field of public life.?

We have enough respect for our National Anthem not to sing it during the "interval". But even if it's not that, you rarely find American sports crowds that sing or chant during a game, other than at some college games. We're usually to busy drinking beer and swearing at the refs.

thats a big cultural diff then ;)

We do the latter, but are huge fans of cranking out a chant as things proceed ;)
And when it's international stuff, our national anthem is a logical choice i guess :D

Why would the crowd start singing the US Anthem? We're too busy singing along with the chorus of "Who Let The Dogs Out?".

i guess given the pretty tiny size of Oz we get to see a lot more international games live (even in Perth) than you folks would?

I think it's better than Australia's. But then again I guess only rednecks need an anthem to pump themselves up. Typical Australians.

like you've ever heard the aussie national anthem mr. redneck :p

stop trolling and go home buddaayy, please.

I've heard it before. There have been threads about national anthems before with links to sites that have had national anthems listed up. Australia's is one of the worst, IMO.

They should have just made their national anthem the theme song for Crocodile Dundee if it even had a theme song of any sort.

i suspect you missed the bit where i asked rednecked flamers not to bother posting, or perhaps the bit where i told you to stop trolling in my thread :|

I've asked a serious question, and you come in here and flame like a 12 year old (like you alway seem to do to my threads), give me a break you racist fvck and leave my threads alone please?

Clear?

What a whiney piece of sh!t. You come in here to talk sh!t on OUR anthem, as soon as someone says something bad about YOURS, its trolling.

oh, and this may come as a shock to you, the anthem was not chosen on the basis of what is the best pump up song for a rugby game. Maybe I'm wrong there.

I read the entire thread. Allow me to write a quick synopsis.

Dug777 finds the anthem uninspiring and that it can't pump you up like Australia's.
Rabidmongoose says he likes USA's better than Australias.
Dug777 gets upset and calls him a redneck troll.
Deeko defends Rabidmongoose
Dug777 again gets offended and says Deeko is flaming him.

Sorry, but they have a point. Our anthem wasn't selected to be a pump up song. It describes the struggle to become a free nation. We sing it to show respect, and then we have other songs that we sing to get pumped up. Go to any US hockey game and you'll find out.

i said i found it hard to imagine it being played/sung in the way the Aussies/Scots play/sing it, Mongoose calls me a redneck and has racist rip on me a few times(without provocation), deeko comes in an flames wildly for no apparent reason.

Maybe if you look back and actually read what i said you'll see that :|

It's true that the range is difficult for most people. But trust me that does not stop people from trying, in their loudest and most piercing shrieks ;)
