Opening a Compaq laptop...

Compaq used to provide PDF disassembly/service manuals from their Web site. This was before the HP merger. I can no longer find this information for any of their laptops. Do Compaq-certified repair technicians have access to these documents? I am trying to service a Compaq Presario 1510T, which is a rather odd variation of an Evo-series laptop.

I noticed that myself. They had those Compaq service guides on there until about 6 months ago. I have a copy of the HTML-bases (not PDF) for the Compaq 1270-1670-1675, if that would help. I don't think those were close to the 1510T.

hmm.. i think i opened one of those before.. pretty hard.. screws everywhere.. i got it half open , enough to salavage the hdd in side.. i think there might be screws under keyboard that I can't even see..

You might not be completely out of luck. The service guide I had has online pointers back to a Compaq FTP site that is still there. Try poking around in this maintenance guide section of the web site. Also, look up a directory or two. The techpubs/qrg section has Quick Reference Guides and one of them was a generic 1500 XX version. Looked promising, but I don't know the model number of the 1500T and that appears to be how they are named.

I searched google to find that the battery used in the 1500 series is the same as that used in the N1000. Then I searched hp.com for the support page for the N1000 and it had the manual.

I guess we got lucky this time. It would be nice if I could find what I need whenever someone needs me to fix their laptop.
