I have the latest patch of UT2003 (2199), and I tried out opengl for the first time, and to my amazment i looked at the FPS scale to be getting 60 FPS instead of the usual 45, durring gameplay! I have a GeForce 4ti 4200, and i was wondering if anyone else is having the same kind of results with opengl mode, if so im dumpin d3d, if there arnt any disadvantages to the OpenGL mode.

Nvidia cards are very fast in openGL.

Check out the QuadroFXs opengl on tomshardware.

Thing blows away the ATi R300 based professional lvl card. Even the old Quadro4(GF4) beats the R300 based card.

Supposedly OGL is less stable...

But, if you remember, the original UT ran better when it first came out in D3D... but now, if you get the updated OGL renderer, it runs much better in OGL mode...

<- guesses he'll try out OGL in UT2k3 for shi!ts and giggles... TI4600

EDIT: forgot to add, its a Ti4600 hacked to Quadro 900XGL... perhaps there will be a very big advantage... hmmm

OpenGL might be faster but it's also missing a lot of visual effects. It's also the secondary renderer for the game so it might not be as stable or as compatible as the Direct3D one.

Don't rely on the Stat FPS command. If you actually run the individual .bat files for benchmarking, you'll notice that OpenGL is still a little slower than D3D. Also, BFG10K is correct that some details are missing (ie. look at the puddles of water in the Antalus level).
