OpenGL help

I cannot run apps in openGL. D3D runs fine, and up until now have just used it instead. But openGL is way too dark. I can't see what I'm doing. Now I have StarTrek Elite Forces and can't play it because it's openGL. This is the same for my Voodoo 3, Geforce DDR, and Evil Kyro. What can I do to fix it? I have adjusted everything I could find and knew what it was. Please help.

is there a gamma adjust in the game?

how about

--> right click on desktop
--> settings tab
--> Advanced Button
--> GeForce DDR tab***
--> Additional Properties
--> Color Correction tab

Then fiddle with brightness color and gamma

*** I have a TNT 2 so i don't know the exact name of the tab, but it should be quite obvious. it's the one with the spinning nVidia logo.

Ok I tried that and there was no change in the game. I noticed that where there is a light or a weapon blast it lights up as it should. But when you are not right under a light it is pitch black. I'm running around in darkness the whole time till I come to a light. the immediate area will be lit up but that's it.

I can't speak for the Kyro but for the other two cards:

The GF DDR will automatically play all games at the same brightness as your desktop. Adjust your gamma level in the control panel to a suitable level and then try the game.

The Voodoo 3 has separate sliders for each of the 3D APIs. Simply slide the Glide/OpenGL slider to a bright enough level and then try the game.

Finally, Elite forces is based on the Quake 3 engine so it's likely that it sets the gamma directly, ignoring your driver settings. Go into the game and find a way to raise the gamma somewhere in the video options. Failing that you can try to bring down the console and type "r_gamma x", where x is your required gamma. Try 1.5 and work your way up in .1 increments.

if you are running windows 2000, q3 has a problem with darkness, but with the 1.27g and 1.27h patches, id has corrected the bug. now you can adjust the brightness within the game. elite forces should have a patch out to correct this as well.
