OpenGL... games too dark?

Deus Ex, CS, Q3A, UT... all too dark.

win2k
tnt2pro, 5.32 det. drivers.
d3d is a no go, it is corrupted and what not for some reason. (both when overclocked and not).

i haven't tried turning the gamma in windows to an insanely high level, that would be a pain to set every time i wanted to play a game (tho, can't powerstrip handle this? but thats not the point).

what could be the problem? i would play deus ex, and my roommate would hear me use the flashlight, and call me a wuss cuz i had to use it... i eventually watched him play and realized he could actually see where i couldn't.. same in CS.. and Q3.. i tend to walk into places and not see ppl (where as my friends would).. there was a q3 fix i was told about, but that didn't do much.

brightness on the monitor if increased, looks really shatty, so thats not an option.

what i haven't tried are different drivers... but i don't want to have to revert to that.

TIA,
Linh

I had this problem in w2k as well. The only solution I found was to turn up the gamma setting when playing games that needed it. I ended up using Powerstrip so that I could adjust it easily on the fly.

I suggest getting Powerstrip.

had this problem back in Q2; adjusting the gamma (think to 3.5 or 4 for that game) was the answer for me. Might want it a little darker to keep the "realism" of the visuals, but i needed to see into dark corners...

CL GTS.

I liked using Powerstrip because you could just bump the gamma up a few clicks with hot keys and everything would look better, or at least be visible.

I also had that problem with my CL TNT2 in w2k.

In addition, it seemed that adjusting gamma in the control panel never carried over into the game; that is why I got PS.

yeah, that did the trick. but i can say my friend has a Geforce 2 GTS 32MB, and in win2k, running UT, it looked amazing. didn't seem to have any darkness problems at all.

I can see now who's killing me 😛

BTW, is there anything thats freeware that is like Powerstrip?
