This is just weird, and very specific, but I thought I'd post here and see if anyone could help.

I have counter-strike. This is because counter-strike is wonderful. However, on some servers, it crashes the second a round starts. This only happens on some servers, and it only happens when i'm running the game using hardware acceleration powered by my ATI Radeon 8500. I also have a Geforece2MX card in the machine, and that works fine, but a) it's slow and crappy and b) an old email-only monitor is hooked up to it.

So I've tried-
reinstalling CS
removing and reinstalling several generations of ATI Catalyst drivers
changing every video setting I can find in the game and in the ATI control panels

Counter-strike can use D3D as well for its video acceleration needs, but that has never worked - it just crashes straight to the desktop as soon as a round loads. What is especially interesting to me is that these crashes don't happen if I join a round in progress. In other words, the acceleration works perfectly, and I can see all 3d models etc moving perfectly, but as soon as the round resets, it crashes.

To me, that makes it obviously a game-specific bug, but i can't seem to fix it and am wondering if anyone else out there (I know half you ATers play CS) has any clue of what to do. Any way to repair the OpenGL system? I'm lost

Thanks!
