Discovered something interesting yesterday when I was experimenting with overclocking my Elsa Gladiac Ultra. I had the speed set to 300/500 and a card cooler installed, the card felt only slightly warm. Running 3DMark2000 and FIFA 2001 everything was fine.
However, in UT which is using OpenGL mode and the high detail compressed (S3TC) textures from CD2 I got graphics corruption and had to lower the core speed to 275Mhz. If I ran UT in ordinary D3D mode @ 300Mhz all was fine!
I looked also at Quake 3 and Elite Force which also use compressed textures and OpenGL and would you believe it the same story. Turn OFF compressed textures, card is fine @ 300Mhz.
Could it be that the card is having to "do more" because it is uncompressing the textures?
Any one else notice this?
