Anyone render using OpenCL with Sony Vegas Pro 12 and a Radeon 7970?

Everywhere I read says OpenCL/GPU doesnt work in Sony Vegas when using a 7970. Can anyone confirm this or tell me that it in fact works? If it does work for you, what are your render times?

Its pretty impressive the 7970 ghz is almost twice as fast as a GTX Titan,
in Vega Pro 12, with OpenCL.

Hell even a 7770 beats Nvidia's fastest GPU the Titan in this bench.

Are you saying that you can confirm that it in fact works or is that from reading the gpu comparison?

MP4, 1080p, select the option to render in OpenCL instead of CPU in project settings. CPU takes about 15 minutes. video card takes 3-4 minutes roughly for a 6 minute video.

I can confirm OpenCL works with my 7770 in Vegas 12 Build 670. My $89 video card is faster than a $1000 Titan. None of my gamer friends believe this, despite the benchmark results. Hilarious!!!

As to what the problem was with the 7950 and 7870, I expect it was Vegas. Always suspect Vegas.

hey this is false.

I render in Open CL with Sony Vegas pro 12.

previously with a Radeon 6950.

Now with both gpu's in my rig the 7970 and the 650 nv card.

I can post some numbers later as I still have all 3 cards here.

From what I saw the radeon 6950 was faster than my NV card and the 7970 is faster than both.

One interesting bug i've found on this app is because I have the NV card in my rig for Physx sony vegas always seems to render to it by default even if i've told it to use the radeon in the settings.

I have to go in to the device manager and disable the nv card to force it to render on the radeon only.

If I don't it seems to render 90% on the NV card and I do see a small load on the radeon as its running.

Ok, don't mean to resurrect this forum but this forum is the only place that's even remotely close to what's happening to me.

I have a single Sapphire Radeon 7970 GHz Edition and any time I try to render anything using the same settings as DarkKnightDude it will NOT render to the GPU, it always goes to the CPU and takes forever. I already have the most up to date drivers (even tried old drivers and installing the SDK driver pack), I've even gone so far as to reinstall Windows and try a different PCIe slot with no success! Any setting in Vegas I check is set to use the GPU (OpenCL) and when I go to the system tab in the render settings and click check for OpenCL support it says that it's supported and available.

I'm at my wits end! Please someone tell me that I'm just overlooking a stupid setting somewhere or that I have some kind of strange hardware combo that's problem causing the problem.

Or even point me in the right direction to where I can figure this out.

If it helps I have a Phenom II 1100T processor @ 3.8GHz, 16GB Corsair Vengance DDR3 RAM (4x4GB), Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard, Thermaltake 1000W PSU, 120GB SSD (which Vegas Pro 12 build 670 is installed on) and other data drives where the files being rendered are stored.

That helped a bit. Instead of rendering at about 10 frames/sec I'm now rendering at about 15 frames/sec so it definitely helped.

For the most part my settings were the same as this guy's except for the couple at the first of the video.

I was watching the CPU and GPU utilization while it rendered and this time the CPU was at about 50 to 60% where the GPU occasionally spiked to 50 to 60% as well so I think I'm on the right path here lol.

Sorry for posting on an old thread but I was wondering if anyone here had any luck with the Radeon's running Vegas 12? I just got a 7970Ghz Edition and the rendering speeds are awful.
Thanks

I have it running on my machine.

Just a short FYI. OpenCL rendering in Vegas is NOT supported with the Main Concept encoder - even tho it claims it is. Vegas will prep the frames using OpenCL and then pass them to the MC encoder which won't use OpenCL.

However, the Sony AVC encoder uses OpenCL and is 2-3X faster than a CPU only encode.

I ran into this a couple months back but thank you for posting it alot of people aren't aware of this.
