Hello,

I'm debating with myself weather using someone's OPEN/None encrypted network for internet access is considered stealing?

I consider a network setting to OPEN as free for all. Not to say to use all the bandwith.
I'm also at a place where internet connection is hard to fine.

I'm at a highrise condo.

Thx

Well depends....

DO they know it's open?

I fthey know it open and leave it open then it is not stealing if they don't know then yes it is.

What they don't know can't hurt them?

Don't be a dumbass & do anything noticeably bandwidth intensive, but hey...if they don't secure it...that's their problem :p

lets say your neighbor leaves his wired router in his hallway, it'd be stealing if you plug in your computer into the router, no?

why don't you go knock on his door and ask politely if you can leech some bandwidth from him

Wrong, if a connection is open and you don't have to circumvent any kind of security then it is perfectly legal. The second you try to circumvent someone's security then you are in the wrong.

Either way, I can tell you're still an asshole for thinking of such a justification. :p

hey I'm in CHina ATM, anything goes here. I think if it is in the air and not locked it is free. But not to say I should take all the bandwith.
Besides, the Chinese people are known to sqeeze for stuff. Why not be a Chinese in China?

The internet cafes here suck, as like in most places.

Open airways?

What about in my bedroom?

I fthey know it open and leave it open then it is not stealing if they don't know then yes it is.
How would you discern that information? Go door-to-door to all 500 apartments in a 300ft radius and ask "is your SSID Linksys2"?

Sounds like you're trying to troll. The last company I worked for had an open wifi that they allowed anyone who could pick up the signal to use. By your opinion you are saying that connecting to it would be illegal despite the company allowing it. There is where you are wrong.

Well if you are in a bussiness that leaves it netowrk open typically in an apartment I would say that it is.

In short, yes. It's called wardriving and it's against the law.

With your name you should know better. It's perfectly legal as long as you don't circumvent security. Some people share for a reason you know...

Nothing wrong with it imo, so long as you don't download gigs upon gigs or anything illegal.

You are not debating about it at all. You have no morals. Your whole post was justifications on why you think stealing is ok.

Using somebody's wireless internet without thier knowledge or permission is a felony, but its not something that is typically enforced.

This is totally irrelevant to OP's question, but I found a great wireless AP.

I was at my friends apartment in Columbus, OH and I opened up my laptop to get online. There were about 6 unsecured AP's in range, and the one with the best signal was SSID = "DON'T MAKE ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS!!!". I thought this was hilarious and immediately connected to it and began seeding on bt for them being morons. Obviously there's been some bandwidth hoarding issues going on with their unsecured AP, if only they knew the ease of WEP, MAC address filtering, and turning off SSID broadcasting. Dumbasses.
