Open Licenses

We have bought a new machine and it has Office 07 trial pre loaded. And when lauching it for the first time, it aksed for a 25 digit product key. Am I legally allowed to enter our open Licence there and not be a NO NO from Microsoft, or is just wanting a retail cd key?

NM, dumb questions the versions wont match. It didn't work, so i have to use the open licence cd.
