Open GL How?

Ok I here this talk about running games with Open GL and D3D how do you change what you are using to run a game. How do I change from one to the other. Do I do this in my graphics card drivers or in the game options. I have an Elsa GF2-MX card in windows 98 SE.

If your game supports OpenGL and D3D, the game itself should have a option to switch somewhere in its video settings menu(s).

In a game such as Counter Strike or Halflife, in the Video Modes section under Configuration it lets your choose Software, Direct 3D or OpenGL and it also lets your choose your screen resolution. Most games have settings similar to this for changing the video mode. If your video card can handle OpenGL then you should definatly go for it because it's a lot faster than Direct 3D.
 
I beg to differ. OpenGL is horribly slow for me wether with my Geforce DDR or Kyro card. This leads me to think that I have something set wrong. Could use a link. Have read OpenGL FAQ's, posted on OpenGL.org, and searched further to no avail. CS was so choppy it wasn't funny. I also posted something to this effect in the other opengl thread. All I play is UT right now so couldn't care about CS.
 
Every game is different. Some games support multiple API's, some don't. Half-Life and its variations (CS) work best in OpenGL since it is based (loosly) on the Quake engine). UT can run in Glide, D3D, MeTal, OpenGL, software renderer. You can pick the one you want. On your card, D3D is the best API for UT unless you use the Loki OpenGL "special" driver.
