Open GL and Direct3D dosent work with my Geforce 2 MX

My friend has a little dilema with his Geforce 2 MX. The card in his comp dosent want to support Open GL and D3D. Why? We updated the drivers for his geforce, we made damn sure the card is installed correctly (phisicaly and digitally) and the most funny thing is that i tested that card in my comp and it worked fine. Quake2 was meshed and im pretty sure that games like diablo2 that use D3D would work fine too (although i didnt run D2 with D3D on) These are his comps specs (the ones i think are relevant):

T-Bird 900mhz
13 Gig HD
256 RAM
ASUS A7V mobo... and the "gay" geforce

The only think that comes to my mind is that maybe his BIOS needs to be updated. I am really running out of ideas so please help us (well him 🙂)
Thanks!

Did you install the Via 4 in 1 drivers? Also go into Bios disable fastwrites & all Video shadowing, even try AGP 2x mode until you get the card stable for gaming..
Also are you using Asus drivers? You could try Nvidia 6.31 or later drivers, don`t forget to remove old Asus ones first, btw what OS are you using?

ohhhhhh ya, both him and myself are using Win2K, and i dont know if this helps but the card is also with a build in tv-out.

and i dont know if he is using asus vid drivers, if thats what are u getting at. He installed the Detonator 3 drivers from nvidia's site.

by the way whats a Via 4 in 1 drivers and what do they do? Isnt VIA the Thaiwaneese manufacturer which took over Cyrix 🙂 (hey just asking if that has to do anything with VIA the corporation)

Install the Via 4 in 1 drivers from here these are the offical 4.25a drivers there are later leaked drivers(4.26,4.27,4.28) out, anyway this should improve stability & help games run fine in 3D,they really should be the first thing installed & are quite important especially the AGP driver in the Via 4 in 1 drivers.

They are for all VIA chipset boards, the ASUS A7V is Via chipset board(KT133)so if you read the manual it says they should be installed, look on the ASUS motherboard CD they will be in there.

just a bump....
BTW i did all that funky stuff that ive been told (i even updated the BIOS) and it still gives me some problems
1. AGP Texturing dosent work (if u go to ur directX folder) - the cube is not in one piece but lots of pieces 🙁
2. and D3D dosent work at all now ........... (it works half way sort of)

So plesase, i still need help..

Where can u edit the AGP speed (eg from 4x to 2x as u said. i cant find that in BIOS). And also where can u EXACTLY disable the video shadowing (i did disable some shadowing in BIOS but im not sure if those ones where the right ones) and the fastwrites?

You may need the AMD & WIN2000 patch,I don`t have the link but somebody here will know where you can download it from. The ones to disable look like video Bios shadow disable,cxxx-cbfff shadow disable,ccxxx-cff shadow disable etc.

On my MSI board the AGP MODE is under advanced chipset, also check you AGP aperture size it should be 64mb or 128mb you can also try 32mb if you like ,also under same section.

UPDATE - I found the Win2000 & AMD patch go here

thanks guys and sorry for not responding to ur comments too fast but i was quite busy and wasnt on anandtech for a while............... ill get on it asap and give u any results good or bad 🙂

.................we can go from there

ive updated the AMD and win2k drivers and dirextX dosent wanna work at all right now, and everything looks worse then b4.... all shadowing is off too

how can u uinstlall directX to install older version of dx7......maybe then everything will work.

is it true that nvidia's cards dont really like AMD processors? I got an Intel P3 and my friend his 900mhz t-bird and he is arguing that the vid cards dont work with the bird processor that well (or nay other AMDs)........ does he have a point?

(the card worked fine in my comp)

My own system MSI K7T PRO,Geforce2 MX & 900T-bird are working fine so I think your problem must be something we have overlooked.I would try reformat, clean install of OS,& install Via 4 in 1 drivers first, the rest after & take it from there.

Btw try slower memory speed settings in Bios,at this stage you`ve nothing to loose.

k im doing what u told me to right now...and it is really screwed up that u got almost identical system and the same components work in ur comp

cross ur fingers 😕
