Yup it finally happened.

the lousy company eStrategic i worked for fired me today.

I told them 3 weeks ago or so that I am going to summer school and hence I cant go to work in the morning M-Th 8-1pm.. the CEO wasnt too happy.. I did what I could to catch up on the Friday and working from home (that reminds me time to disable remote access for these idiots).

So the guy starts bitching and stuff and I told him nothing I can do..... needless I go in today and I get fired.

The last 2 semesters I worked in the morning finished my workload and then went to school, but in the summer its hard to get afternoon classes. I have been here almost a year, and had they given me another month I would have had a year. Oh well.. so I get fired.

Now to find something to do in the mean time.. i wonder what I can do .. Unemployment/// can an part time person with under 30 hrs get it? If so how. Also do i get a additional money if I get fired (from teh company).

Now to call my mom and tell her the news. Vanny was very shocked but she understands (which means no magic mtn for her atleast not until i get some money).

TGG

AFAIK you can't get unemployment. Start looking for a job now, before school starts. Even if it's in the cafeteria in the dorms, it's better than having no money.

Fired is different than laid off in terms of unemployment, IIRC. You may not qualify. :p

You only qualify for unemployment if you were let go without cause - layoffs, etc. They let you go with cause - you were unable to work the required shift.

Ok, posting here asking questions about unexployment won't get you very far because it varies state to state. What you should do is look up the rules on your state's unemployment website and see what the provisions are for collecting. Just type in your state and unemployment insurance into a search engine and it should pop up.

Good luck.

well they knew I wasnt going to be able to do the morning hours (like i did the last 2 semesters) and frankly I gave them enough notice of that too. But they felt they could get away without having me.. they fired me but they said "oh we dont need your services anymore"

Its like there was no cause.. I did my stuff even though I couldnt go in the morning.. I did so in the afternoon/friday and from home. I think had they kept me a bit longer it would have been a year (august 15th or 22nd was my first day there..).

Oh well..

you probably wont qualify because your going to school. unemployment is only for ppl that worked enough hours, or were paid enough, over a certain period of time, and are currently looking for work. and of course if you were working as an independent contractor or something along those lines then your screwed also, as you can only draw unemployment if your employer is paying into the unemployment fund (which they are required too by law). but you wont know unlessl you give your local unemployment office a call!
