Open Case = Cooler system, WTF???

I've got 5 80mm fans blowing into my system (4 in the lower front for all my HDDs, I'm a RAIDer ;) and 1 over my CPU on the side. Further, I have 2 80s blowing out, 1 80mm PCI slot fan blowing out, and my dual fan Enermax PS blowing out. The weird thing is that if my home made filter is right on top of my 4 front intake fans (slowing the flow) OR I REMOVE BOTH SIDES OF MY CASE then the sys temp drops to 27C and the CPU gets down to 35C???? However, if the filter is moved away OR THE SIDES ARE ON, the sys temp goes to 31C and the CPU up to 39C??? 4C difference just by moving air filters ? How can this be? Any ideas????

With the fans you have, the amount of air going into your case is greater than amount of air being expelled. That creates turbulence, so the hot air in your case never gets a chance to escape and that's why your temps are so high. When you have the filter on and reduce flow, it reduces turbulence. When you have the side off, it's practically impossible to create turbulence. That being said, try flipping one of your intake fans (maybe the over on the CPU) and see what your temps are after that.

yep I agree with virtualmike, either re-work some of your fan's orientation or consider ducting some of your fans to control airflow a bit better.

I second what they said, you've got bad pressure in your case. Just change the orientation of fans until you get optimal cooling.

Edit: Dumb spelling error...

Thanks for all ur input, seems the filter over my CPU was so filled up (after only 3 weeks continuous use) it upped my temps by 2C each!!! the front filter and fans weren't the issue (they're semi low RPM Enermax fans with thermal sensors but they keep my hard drives at room temp which is cool. Looks like the side filter was just blocking too much air, I think i'm going rounded cables, moving the 80mm side fan as a top blowhole and increasing the side fan to Enermax's 120mmx25mm manually adjustable fan for improved cooling
