Open box TV ... bad idea?

I recently saw a Sony KV-34HS510 TV available on clearance for $1280. When I went to ask about it, the salesperson told me that only open box models were available (for about $1100). The dealer is reputable (Tweeter), but still, I'm hesitant to jump on this deal because it's open box.

Any thoughts on buying an open box TV? Should I bite the bullet and buy it, or just keep looking?

I should also mention that the dealer said that the TV was just placed in the showroom two weeks ago.

I would personally do a google search and find out more about who you're dealing with, because if someone has had problems they will sure post them on the net to complain. You can also try the tv, and if it's no good just return it within the warranty range.

Direct view open box should be fine, if it was projection, I would say no, but I think it's a safe bet.

go for it. Make sure they plug it in first, and let you see it work. That way you know you got a good TV, and not one that is DOA.
