Is this any reason that purchasing an open-box processor from newegg would be a bad thing?

Anyone have experience with that?

what if i don't care about getting an uber overclocking chip? This what i want to purchase... http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16819103046R

And before jumping the gun, take a look around. Retail with HSF is only like $7 more. =/
Text. Free shipping again, so it's costing you an extra $2 for a brand new processor.

Actually it's only $0.36.

too bad we don't have a hardware forum in general, or even a cpu specific forum that might even include overclocking said cpus...

This isn't so much about processors as it is about openbox items in general.

Yeah, the original question was about open-box items and the thread kinda moved into the direction of suggesting better solutions than the one i was thinking about.

It would be prudent considering the direction it went to have it moved into the 'General Hardware' forum.

I wouldnt want an open box processor. Might still have cheapo thermal paste and such smeared all over it.

Imo, its far from worth getting an open box cpu in order to save a couple bucks. A disk drive, or a card, but not the processor...its too valuable and too much a pia to swap out.

And just because it may have been returned because its not a good overclocker, and you don't overclock, doesn't mean its not a concern. It may run hotter than normal thus not a good overclocker, and that would be a legitimate concern.

yeah, but most of that stuff you can inspect. This is buying open box without inspecting, not that inspecting would help you with a CPU anyway.
