Lenovo P1 Thinkpad, Model 20MD001WUS, looks OK (in middle of setup). Packaged well AFAIK, even had official open box sticker on the box.

It wasn't "clean." Not horrible, and I wouldn't care, I can clean it up, I have 3 other Lenovo Thinkpads, old models, I mean pre-2008! I'm using my T61 right now and its screen looks better than the "new" P1 I just got. The screen was dirty, I cleaned it by misting water on it and dabbing dry with clean paper towels. But in the top left corner there's what I figure is probably a grease stain, pretty good size (maybe 1/3 square inch), that's real shiny... the screen is matte, so the shiny stands out. I suppose in actual use I wouldn't notice it most of the time, but I'd like to somehow eliminate that defect. Heck, this T61's screen has no defect like that, I've had it since 2012 (bought it used off Ebay then). I've cleaned my Thinkpads' screens many times, but never experienced a stubborn "smudge" like this.

There's another much smaller mark 1/2 way down the left side, but it's the bigger one that's the most concern. They are better now than when I first tried to clean them, but the big one still really sucks. I tried some mild soap, swirling a paint brush over it, then water/paper-towels, still won't remove.

I'm guessing that the marks were produced by finger touches on the screen, i.e. oil off someone's fingers. Of course, that's just conjecture. How can I remove those marks?

Thanks... I pursued that at various online sources and decided to try a modified version of an online page on screen cleaning:

I sprayed a bit of tap water on a small (quarter-sized) portion of a microfiber cloth, then dabbed that on the open top of a container of 70% isopropyl alcohol. Circle-cleaned the 2 spots for a few seconds and allowed that to air-dry (less than 10 seconds) and voila! I can't see a trace of the spots now, the screen looks perfect!

I'll have to try that. Glad you had success with it.
