Would you guys buy an open box item from the egg? Obviously prices are better, but....how reliable?

You get a 15 day warranty and no accessories. I've bought about a dozen boards over the last 8 years, but none recently. I have fry's electronics, and they beat newegg on combo deals and closeout boards.

I buy open box all the time, just be sure to test it as soon as it arrives and always assume it's only the bare mobo. (No I/O shield, manual, drivers or anything though sometimes you get lucky and get it all.) Of all of the open box items I've purchased over years and years, only one or two have given me an issue.

R.E. NewEgg Open Box sales :

Do I pay postqge to refund a defective OB mobo ?

So , a $80 mobo might cost me $12 + $12 for a

defective mobo I couldn't live with ???

I've bought Open box hard drives, mobo's, video cards, etc and all of them have been great. you just have to have the extra cables, etc sitting around.

Their "official" terms for Open Box sales are that you have 15 days. If you need to return it for ANY reason, there will be a 15% restocking fee and you pay for shipping both ways (original shipping charge, plus return shipping).

I know some will argue that they sat on the phone and got a Newegg CSR to waive the restocking fee or give them free return shipping or something, however what I stated are their OFFICIAL terms. If you do a lot of volume and have the patience to sit on hold, you can get some perks.

I love NewEgg , however , shipping both ways + 15%

restocking fee means $36 out of pocket for a dead mobo

( $80 ) . And NO Factory Warranty .

That's a hellofa leap of faith !
