I have been waiting to find a good deal on a asus p6t deluxe mobo for my I7 build. Newegg now has open box p6t w/ palm for $229. normal closed box price $338.

I have never bought an open box item before, should I stay away from it?
newegg says no acc. come with it,IE no sata cable, no asus q connector, no drivers/software cd.

It would seem it wouldnt be worth the $100 saving to get a beat up no acc mobo.

Opinions?

I bought my P5K3 Deluxe board OB and never had an issue with it. I picked up the IO shield and manual off eBay for 12$ a piece

ya, I saw that, looks decent, but no SATA/SAS cables. and no SLI/crossfire accessories. I would rather get the full package if it is a motherboard. Video cards, I dont think those are as big a deal when getting used. If it were a GTX 280 or 4850 X2 say, and you were getting it that % off for open box, I would say go for it (allready have the monitor and cable, drivers online.)

But I wouldnt do it for a motherboard. What if it is defective/DOA? Also, I once bought an 8800 Ultra new off ebay for about $540 when they first came off, it was the BFG, but it was DOA. Me being a noob then, I contacted the seller instead of BFG. Took FOREVER to get my money back, had to go to visa.

But hey, its the egg. Theyre pretty good. Still, I wouldnt.

I buy open box all the time. The only words of caution I have are, TEST IT ASAP and always assume it's the bare mobo only with NO accessories. Sometimes you get lucky and get everything, most of the time you do not.

Gillbot is right. No matter what people say they have gotten, you HAVE to assume you just get the bare motherboard with nothing else. Also, you have a 15 day warranty, and any returns have a 15% restocking fee and you have to pay for shipping both ways. I know some people have gotten out of fees by phoning in complaints to their customer service, however a restocking fee is their policy. Doesn't matter if you just don't want it or if it shows up DOA.

I have gotten all the major accessories on open box mobo's in the past, but that was when newegg still had great warranties and rma policies. I am not too sure now how they are.
I was thinking about an open box mobo for I7 as well, but am skeptical about not getting the important accessories with it. would be nice if people left feedback on the open box items when they buy them. Its especially tough when Newegg clearly states that its just supposed to be the mobo only.
