Open book test and cheating

Today we had a Physics final that was open book. The teacher had previously stated that he would be using problems from the previous test. I studied hard and believe I probably got a high C. On the other had I personally know at least 3 fellow classmates that wrote every single old test question with work and answers in their text books. Keep in mind that these are 4th year seniors in college. Needless to say they had a more than slight advantage. Anyway, I called one of them on it, told her how I felt about it, and she just blew-up in my face stating her validation was that if the teacher was dumb enough to give an open book test she had every right to use it as a notepad. Now this girl has been my best friend for the past 2 yrs. After she blew up in my face she refused a ride to her car which was at my place and said she didn't care if I wasn't her friend anymore she did what she felt was right. Whatever. I finally convinced her to take the ride. She came in, changed, and left without saying a word. How would you have handled the situation?

They took advantage of the situation. While it may or may not hurt them, it was their choice and none of your business. It's not like they broke any rules if there were no requirements of what the notes could and could not have.

let her do what she wants, she'll probably never use that stuff ever again... but it is kind of annoying to know that you gave an honest effort and everyone around u cheated.

lol, tell that bitch to check her emotional baggage at the door.

also she's a cheating bitch.

Obviously she felt guilty about cheating or she wouldn't have reacted like that.

Your an idiot. Using your logic, looking at your notes during an open book exam is cheating.

Your probably the only person in the class who didn't take advantage of the situation. Why punish her for it?

agreed.. she obviously felt guilty.. but whatever dude.. can't control what other people do, just what you do

I realize that it is none of my business but it still irks the hell out of me. Also we were told we could use the book a.k.a. the printed text in the book from the publisher for the formulas. No notes from class, no old test, no formula sheets, just the printed text.

Then she has no problem of you telling the prof?

Edit: then you should tell if she was stupid enough to get caught, then she'll suffer YOUR WRATH 🙂

She cheated, she knows it, let it go. If the teacher wanted to allow that stuff he would have said so. If you had to "hide" what you're looking at by sneaking it into the book then it's cheating. Let it go unless you think that's it's going to cause you to fail or something like that because it's not worth it.

Honestly, I don't know why people didn't study the previous problems like crazy since you knew that's what you needed to ace the test.

If you really want to get it off your chest, leave a note under your teacher's door telling them what happened but don't leave your name or the names of those that cheated and let them handle it from there.
