open air bench case as permanent case?

maybe blow it off with a can of air every week or two... i like that its compact, and that the 120mm posistion would work great with a scythe ninja.

Someone else had a question about a caseless system, I mean think about it. You've got a big investment in electronics there, you want it protected. From dust, spills, bugs, cats, bears, whatever. At least a workbench is grounded so you don't have to worry much about static, but still, take care of your baby.

The hardest thing to silence in a computer is the hard drive. Everything else can be done passively but the HD(s) have to spin. If you were to take a silentdrive and suspend it then you'd get pretty low noise, but for that you also start to need airflow over the suspended silentdrive to keep the temps low, which means a nexus 120mm @ 5v.

All in all you're probably better off getting a tower case and modding the hell out of it.

You are required by law to contain the RFI from your equipment such that it does not affect your neighbors. A bench-test base doesn't help much in that regard...

thats REAL high on my list of concerns. lol

threadsh1t ftw?

besides, devices have to comply indivually for fcc emissions, its not the cases job to shield them.

Well, RF or no RF, it isn't a problem until your neighbors complain, and to my knowledge, that hasn't been a problem in this situation. I think the objections to this style of running a PC are overstated at best.

I don't think radio interference is going to get to his neighbors, not through a few walls, anyway. And it'd be minor, to say the least. They wouldn't notice it.

If it does, they can by all means sue him for interfering with their right to live peacefully 😛

Anyway, as a general rule... if you have animals, DONT leave the case open. End of story.

Dust, hair, and curious critters all like to get inside your case.

I've been using the HiSpeed PC Tech Station for a while now. I love it.

This one houses my Quiet gaming rig. HDD and cooling fans are suspended, vidcard is passively cooled, optical drives and PSU are mounted on Sorbothane pads for vibration dampening.

It's super-quiet, runs very cool and is easy to clean with an occasional blast of canned air. No brats or pets in this household, so safety isn't an issue.

QFT! Take it from me, you don't want those bears messing with your hardware. Not many of them know what they're doing.

I am using a Nexus on the XP-120. It's one of the brand-new "black and white" ones.

Seconded! Bears removed the heatsink from my gfx card, and lost some motherboard screws. They know jack-sh!t about modding. Trust them not.
