Given how much influence and power ($$$) big oil conglomerates have in the USA, being clean energy self-sufficient is absolutely not what those oil producers want. So going after the Saudi's for the ploy they're running to ramp up the price of a barrel of oil right when it's critical for the Biden admin. to keep that from happening so close to the mid-terms is not going to induce our own conservative leaning producers to pump more oil into the system any more than their profit margins will allow.

Profits over patriotism is a trend our oil producers started a long while ago, and they're not going to change their ways just because Joe and his Democrats wish it so.

you realize there's oil production, then there's refinery capacity. and neither of those ramp up overnight.

a quick google says we have about 50% more refinery capacity than production - roughly 12M bpd in production and nearly 18M bpd in refining. so, even if 100% of our domestic production went to refining and domestic distribution (vs. global markets), we'd still be importing about 1/3 of our oil.

guess what we use most of our oil for? transportation.
guess what can displace oil in transportation? BEVs and FCEVs

the biggest FU to oil producing countries who aren't actually our friends is getting off of oil altogether.
