I came across this non-ref cooler XFX 4770 512mb for $99 +shipping at mwave.

XFX at Mwave SOLD OUT

I haven't used mwave for years, is it still a good place to shop?

When I start buying video cards based on the aesthetics of the cooler, then I know I've hit rock bottom of nerdmanship.

all the early shots of the ATI-branded version of this card had the above card's cooler. i dunno what that other crap is on the other cards, but i would certainly want the dual slot design on more than aestetics.

why lower ranked cards get better cooler. The crap on my 4850 is hitting close to 110C now.
the one on 4850 is both ugly and useless.

This cooler uses the same Delta fan as the Nvidia cards and not the NTK blower from the HD 4870/4890. In other words it's a step-up from the old ATI reference designs.

I don't think its just aesthetics. the dual slot cooler is better (though the other cooler also takes 2 slots, it doesnt have an exhaust).

the dual slot cooler is a 4 pin PWMM fan too, the other one is not.

I like these blower dual slot fans better, but when are the OC Bios versions of 4770 coming?

No, it's when you buy it based on the cooler AND the color of the PCB  In this case, its win-win for the cooler and the black PCB!

And 1gb of ram!

I was gonna wait for the 1gig version too. but looking at some benches of the 4850 with 1gig, I didnt think it would have been a huge difference. More future-proof, maybe. We
shall see.
