For a moment, the price dropped to $94.99 for me, and I had a promo code for 10% off SSDs (unique to account). However, I don't think that deal is repeatable.

These are some of OCZ's most reliable SSDs. AFAIK, the handle sleep / hibernation just fine.

They just aren't very fast, either.

Edit: back down to $94.99!

Now I don't feel so bad about ordering 2 at 2am-ish.

I hope that the refurbs are as reliable as the new 120GB ones I have.

I've got an ocz vertex that has been in use from the day it came out. And it was one of the first ssd ever available.

Hope folks are luckier than I was in my brief experience with this line of SSD(I didn't own it). Having the SSD suddenly crap out on your while simply repairing a keyboard connector locking mechanism is a fine way to traumatize someone.

Both USB and PS/2 keyboard ports draw from the +5v line, as does the SSD. Might have caused a brownout on the +5v, which may have glitched (corrupted) the SSD.

Crucial M500 series has capacitor power backup in their drives to prevent such an occurance.

Received mine already.

They look practically new, but do say refurb in the corner and on the serial sticker.

Mine died. It started displaying as something else in BIOS as well. =(

I have avoided OCZ since. I have an Intel now, but at this price I might snag up one of these.

Lappy was turned off properly from within XP but battery was in. I would pin it on ESD because it was cold room with carpet, although the SATA circuitry was on the other side of the board.

BIOS sees it but the insides were inaccessible.

I've seen far too many of OCZ's SSDs fail out of nowhere. I purchased 3 Vertex 2s when they first came out, and they all failed within two years. They honored the warranty which is nice, but 2 of the 3 have failed again. My buddy's OCZ Vertex 4 just failed after less than a year. My boss's OCZ Agility failed within 6 months. I've got 5 Intel SSDs throughout my personal machines, some of which are 3+ years old, and none have had any problems. The price is tempting, but I wouldn't put much faith in OCZ in terms of reliability.

Very important to set them up correctly in the first place. I have a Vertex 3 that has been nothing but awesome for 2 years. That's the only component in my main PC that hasn't changed in the last 2 years. I have other OCZ SSDs in various applications (laptop, desktops, HTPC) that have run fast and reliably. I did have problems (random blue screens) the very first time I used one (the first Vertex, 3-4 years ago). I think there are probably a lot more happy OCZ customers out there than unhappy ones, but we generally mostly hear from the dissatisfied users. Still, given how cheap SSDs are now, I don't think I'd go for a refurb.

I've got a 120 GB OCZ Solid 2, chugging right along, happy as a clam, in my wife's system.

OCZ didn't have a bad reputation until the Sandforce BSOD debacle, which affected quite a few OEMs besides OCZ - but it seems like OCZ just took a dive at that time and never came back.

Their early SSD products were outstanding. I have 2 60GB Vertexes that are running great. I originally used them in a dual-SSD RAID-0 array, but split them up after building a new main system. Both currently sit in systems that run 24/7 (Linux-based Media server and my ESXi Virtuals server).

OCZ's forays into the PSU market is similar - early products were well received and pretty good, but that product line also took a nosedive in quality a couple of years ago.

I don't think OCZ is going to be around this time next year.

noticed the Smart data was reset - which I guess is normal for a refurb? :(

================================
Chrystal Disk info on this refurb OCZ shows:
Raw Read Error Rate of 5
Power On Hours = 2B which is about as long as I've had it running @43 hours

I've had an M4 256 SSD running for about a year
and it's Raw Read Error Rate still shows 0

should I be worried?

Is yours still working VirtualLarry?
Mine suddenly died yesterday after 2 1/2 years
BIOS doesn't see it - tried multiple computers.

Hmm, I've had two of the OCZ Vertex Plus R2 drive die, in two different friend's systems. One, was the 240GB refurb, that died after a power blackout, and never came back. The other one, a 120GB (purchased New, I think, though I'm not 100% sure), died after a year or two, just rebooting the PC, or maybe it hung while running, and failed to come back on reboot.

I have another 120GB and 240GB refurb, but both haven't been in systems for like a year.
