Reseller Ratings seem decent and I didn't see any evidence of bait & switch.

Reseller Ratings

These cards seem to be disappearing and they destroy the FX5200 in most benchmarks. I don't think theyre produced anymore so that *might* affect warranty but I usually just buy a new card when the current one craps out anyways ;).

The 4200 is a GREAT card if you don't need a cutting-edge graphics card. My son has an Abit 4x 64 meg version on an Abit NFS-7 with a Barton 2500+ (non-overclocked). The last benchmark I did (3dmark 2001se) showed his system capable of 11,500 winmarks! I have the exact same setup (but with an ATI 9600XT) and my benchmark was 12,500. The difference would be much greater, of course, if you benchmark with 3dmark03, which benchmarks DX9 capability. For the money this is a GREAT card.

$79 shipped according to their pricewatch listing. Nice! The next best price is $92.

$52 shipped GeForce3, also on pricewatch, is a good DX8 card for a budget gamer. The Ti4200 series is just a bit faster.

How would the Ti4200 compare with the older stock Radeon 8500 ? Worth the $71 for the upgrade?

My opinion, 8500 to TI4200 for worth the money for the difference.
1000 to 2000 in 3d mark 2001.

Very good deal. You'll be hard pressed to find a better bang for the buck in the budget area.

Not that big of a difference. Most ti4200's will overclock to ti4400 levels no problem. And some can even hit ti4600 levels.

depends on the game the videocard is used for, plus cpu's capabilities as well
i didn't notice a difference playing ut2k3, but did playing gta

ive had both cards, and id say the ti4600 is the much better card. The 64mb ti4200 can usually be clocked up to near 4600 speeds, but you then also have the 64mb differential in memory. Minus playing dx9 games with dx9 effects, the ti4600 is still one of the most capable budget/mid range cards.

People were killing each other for this card when Best Buy had it as a Black Friday deal in 2002. Got one, love it.

Let's not forget that in this deal, we're talking about the 8X AGP version of the card, which actually has a stock speed of 513 MHz on the RAM, so it is not the memory speed slouch that the 4X version was (which was clocked at a much more leisurely 444MHz). My PNY version runs at 4400 sppeds without a problem, but I've never been able to get it up to 4600 speeds. The fan is getting a bit noisy on it, so I might pick up an aftermarket heatsink and fan and see if I can get it higher.

Mine is still good for just about all games, though. The UT2004 demo is quite playable at 1024x768 and 2xQ AA, and the Painkiller demo runs okay if you turn off AA. Halo gets kinda jittery from time to time, but is also playable most of the time. Sure, a GF4Ti will probably not be all that hot for Doom3 or HL2, but I'd say you could run both okay if you sacrificed some eye candy.

These cards are not very comparable to a 4600, but they are really really nice cards none the less. They don't benchmark to far below a FX5600 (standard not ultra).

How does this 4200 compare to a GEforce2 Ultra 64mb? I want to know if I should consider this deal.

They are almost always are faster than 5600's in non aa/af situations. And neither is really fast enough to run aa/af so it's not much of an issue.

Tomshardware has good charts for compairing cards. That was the last card roundup they did, at the end of 2003, you can get the specs of the cards and their benchmarks on several different games.

I have been looking all day for a good deal on a Ti4200. I saw this one, but they were out of stock. I bought one brand new on ebay for 62.00 (72.00 shipped) It's made by Jaton, but the reviews were pretty good. Jaton seems like they have decent quality for a great price.

Here's the link

Only 7 days warranty and no cables or software. Then whats the difference from buying it from this guy compare to refurb from newegg or compgeeks? At least I know with newegg and compgeeks, I will definitely get a refund or replacement with no hassle.
